RECOMMENDED GEAR

This is a collection of my most used accessories, and items that truly aid the performing musician.  If it's on this page, I actually use it in my own performing, practicing, or media production!  Links go directly to Amazon or Hickey's Music.

Recommended slide lubricantThis lube from Yamaha is great - simple to apply - just put a stream about 3-4" long at the bottom of your inner slide tubes, then apply a spray of water to each tube

Electro Voice RE-20 microphone

This is an awesome all around mic for trombone, tuba, and trumpet. It also works fantastically well for podcasts and voiceover. When I record with this mic, I need zero EQ on the trombone sound, it just sounds fat and nice! Requires 48V phantom power (Zoom H4, H5, or interface into your laptop)...

Recommended Headphones: excellent, non-hyped sound. Great balance between sonics and price.

K&M Precision trombone stand - standard size

These stands are just rock solid. I've knocked my horn over on my old Hamilton stands. These are adjustable to fit different size bell horns (tenor, bass, alto) so the horn sits solidly on the stand. Also, the base is quite wide, and if you add a sandbag or two, even rambunctious toddlers generally won't knock them over!

Bach Elite straight mute

These are great mutes. They sound great and play great for just about every situation I've ever found. The "patented tone intensifier" on the bottom is a cone-shaped indention on the end of the mute. I can't say that it does anything for the sound, but it sure makes the mute easier to grip for quick mute changes!

rotect Tenor trombone caseI've owned quite a few different cases. I have one I like better than this one, but it's 3 times the price! This is a great case for the money - a little bulky, but protective and well made.
